Based in New York City, Sean John wear has received critical and commercial success. In 2000 Sean Combs was nominated for the Council of Fashion Designers of America Award as menswear designer of the year for the Sean Jean line. Although Marc Jacobs won the award that year, this nomination pushed Sean Combs into a very privileged category with other famous designers. He was nominated again in 2001.

The artist has said that he owes all of his motivation to his family. His grandmother, who was a seamstress in Harlem, taught him the fundamentals of sewing. His mother, who had given herself the title of “shopaholic”, gave him the inspiration and vision to someday create his own clothing line.
